ERC pide citar a Aznar y ex dirigentes del PP al Congreso para investigar «alcantarillas»
Esquerra Republicana wants former President José María Aznar to appear in Congress to consider the activities of the «sewers» of the state and return to the room to question the same issue, former President Mariano Rajoy; former servants Jorge Fernández Díaz and María Dolores de Cospedal, and former president of the Catalan PP Alicia Sánchez Camacho.
The parliamentary group that Captain Gabriel Rufián officially requested the appearance of all of them before the Congress Commission that investigated the «Operation of Catalonia» after the audio published by Rac1 in recent days.
In these recordings, Cospedal, then Secretary General of the PP, is heard speaking with the now retired Commissioner José Manuel Villarjo. The former Minister of Defense comments that Rajoy is aware of the corruption cases that involved former PP treasurer Luis Bárcenas, in what was later dubbed the «kitchen operation.»
Both discuss meetings with Sánchez Camacho to obtain information about independence politicians and payments to Victoria Álvarez, who was the partner of former Catalan President Jordi Pujol. They also boast that they influenced the loss of seats for the independence movement in the Catalan elections of 2012.
Specifically, ERC justifies the request for these five former popular figures, in addition to the «new indications» arising from these recordings, as «the need to continue investigating various witnesses and actors involved in the» plots under investigation and attributed to the inner workings in collision with the «sewers.»
Since the beginning of the works of this Commission, Esquerra has defended the questioning of Aznar for his phrase «that of Fay, to stop the independence process. However, his name was not included in the list of approved appearances on those days.
PSOE has already shown willingness to call Cospedal to Congress and did not rule out the same for Rajoy, given the seriousness of the audio evidence that, in their view, could confirm that the former Minister of Defense has committed perjury, after placing the Investigation Commission in his appearance.
The former popular figure questioned the existence of the «Operation Catalonia», did not acknowledge the «veracity» of these tapes that claim they could be manipulated and were not subject to judicial custody, and also emphasized the «Bárcenas documents», «B accounting», with a «bag.»
Furthermore, ERC and allies believe that not only Cospedal, but also Rajoy, Fernández Díaz, and Sánchez Camacho lied to the Commission and, therefore, requested that their statements be sent to the Public Prosecutor’s Office. All agreed to debunk the «fiction» of the alleged activities of the Patriotic Police to discredit independence leaders or spy on Bárcenas.
The socialists have been willing to forward some statements to the prosecutor’s office, emphasizing that «everything» will have to «provide the necessary explanations to resolve political and judicial responsibilities, if applicable.»
