El Plan de Rehabilitación instala 1.200 ascensores en 24.000 familias.

El delegate of Housing Policy and president of the Municipal Housing and Land Company (EMVS Madrid), Álvaro González, accompanied by the councilor of Villaverde, Orlando Chacón, visited a building in the neighborhood this morning, from the year 1960, which consists of five floors and has improved accessibility thanks to the Rehabilitation Plan of the City Council of Madrid for which the residents received a grant of 190,000 euros.

The building did not have an elevator, so an exterior one was installed with a capacity for six people and without a machine room. Access is made from the landings of the homes, with a minimum width of 1.20 meters, for which the staircase was demolished and a new one-step staircase was built.

To improve the building, an insulation system was implemented with the help of SATE. In addition, work was done on the electrical installation, fire extinguishing systems with the installation of fire extinguishers and signage, sanitation, and roof.

González highlighted «the great reception of the Rehabilitation Plan among the people of Madrid, which has increased the number of applications, going from almost 1,500 applications in 2020 to almost 2,600 applications at present.» The delegate emphasized that «the rehabilitation of buildings not only improves aesthetics, but also the comfort of the homes and the savings for all residents.» For these reasons, he highlighted the importance of the Rehabilitation Plan promoted by the City Council, as «practically 70% of the homes in the city of Madrid are from before 1980.»

Since 2020, the City Council of Madrid has allocated 244 million euros for the rehabilitation of more than 100,000 homes, of which more than 70% has been for improving accessibility. Actions such as the installation of 1,200 elevators in the city of Madrid have benefited approximately 24,000 families.

Grants from the Rehabilitation Plan

The assistance provided to the community of owners in Villaverde for the installation of this elevator was made through the annual call for grants from the Rehabilitation Plan, which aims to preserve and improve the common elements of residential buildings and in which 218 million euros were invested for the calls for the years 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024.

These grants, aimed at community owners and single-family homes, subsidize five lines of action: the conservation of facades, roofs, and structures; energy efficiency by insulating facades, replacing communal boilers, or installing green roofs and charging points for electric vehicles; health with the removal of asbestos elements and the improvement of building accessibility with the installation of elevators, platforms, or lifting ramps, with an aid in this case of up to 75% of the cost of the works, up to 10,000 euros per house. In addition, as a novelty, in this 2024, the safety of electrical installations and fire prevention will be subsidized, as well as the organization of common spaces.

These grants are paid in advance when the license is granted, so residents do not have to wait for the works to be completed to receive the money. /
