JMGV, one of the witnesses in the trial against the accused who stabbed another young man, XGC, to death with a large dagger at the entrance of a leisure venue in the PoliGon district of Toledo and was with the night of Bari, said that the accused, Fjig, turned against his friend on their way out.
This was indicated during the second session of the trial with the popular jury organized in the provincial court of Toledo, where he stated that he led the victim to the Health Center, ensuring that he said: «He’s dying» and added that he arrived alive, but almost bled out.
Regarding the events, he admitted he was a friend of the victim and that the accused was an acquaintance. «I know him from the neighborhood because we live in Las Malvinas,» he said, adding that Fjig was known as «The Fishmonger» because he worked in a fish market.
They had gone out that day with XGC and after being together in several bars in the Polygon neighborhood, they encountered the accused, who accompanied them on the last ride they took that night before acknowledging that the victim and the accused «had a friction», because the former gave the latter a bad reputation. «But then they kissed, and asked for the last excuses to smoke a joint, even.»
When they left the bar, he said they were all laughing, always about five or six meters ahead. «In one of those moments, I heard XGC ask FJig if he had a problem, and the accused responded smiling, hands in his pockets, and then he grabbed him and started hitting his back. But then I saw that there were no fists and that there was a blade with speed.»
He then ran towards the accused who punched to let XGC go and then kept running after him shouting «four things» after indicating he flew. Upon his return, he saw the victim leaning against a shop window and, although he initially wasn’t bleeding, he started to «drip» blood from his right arm. «I patched him up as best as I could and ran to the emergency room.»
During his testimony, this witness stated that his friend «had no chance to defend himself» and that, after being attacked, he «was still». «I don’t know how he didn’t fight back,» he said, adding that if he hadn’t intervened, the accused would have continued stabbing the victim, before stating that it was «impossible» to find an explanation for that behavior.
Finally, once in the emergency room, JMGV indicated that he left his friend there and went to ask for help to call the National Police to report the events that took place.
During the trial, another witness also testified that he saw the victim and the accused in the aforementioned bars mentioned by the previous witness and who was behind them before the aggression occurred. «In the silence of the night, they seemed to be playing until, at one moment, I heard JMGV insult someone.»
He then continued on the path until he found a wallet on the ground and «a lot of blood,» so he went to the emergency room to hand over the wallet and saw XGC on the ground «not moving or anything.»
The friend of the accused testified 15 years ago and reported that, after that, he had no further relationship with his neighbors, despite which he defined him as «an aggressive person» because when they met, he hit him.
He said he knows that sooner or later, Fjig «will do something like this» because when he saw him during the break «he was lost.» «Any discussion with him about anything ends in aggression,» he said, adding that he is passionate about weapons.
He also emphasized that on the same day as the events, early in the morning when he woke up at home, which is in the same housing block as the accused, he saw a note under the door saying: «I’m fjig, I call my brother on Facebook or whatever, I was imprisoned.»
In the process, several police officers corroborated JMGV’s version, with whom they spoke at the Health Center, seeing him with «abundant» blood as if they were treating a bleeding person.
Despite the nervousness, they acknowledged that this witness had, highlighted the consistency he reported on the day of the events, never changing his story, identifying the accused as the person who «stabbed» his friend, whom he referred to as «fisherman.»
The officers set up a surveillance device in front of the accused’s house because they suspected he might have taken refuge there or would return home, as when they knocked on his door they only heard silence. Until it was the accused himself who surrendered, leaving the entrance of the housing block, telling the police: «I know you’re looking for me, I come to turn myself in.»
Although reinforced institute stated that the accused «did not want to cooperate at any time,» they indicated that traces of blood were found on one of his boots and that he remained calm during the search of his house, despite the disturbances happening on the street.
A recording in which the officers found a knife near a door, although they indicated that, due to its size and considering the wounds of the deceased, it was not the weapon used to end his life, although it was collected as evidence if needed.
The National Police did not find the weapon with which the alleged stabbing was carried out, despite the fact that, in the rooms of the units, the accused also died in those of the Municipal Council, it is seen that he had «an object of large dimensions,» although they have not been able to determine what it was.
The trial will resume on Wednesday with the testimony of the experts.
