El alcalde de Zaragoza desactiva plan de emergencia y solicitará explicaciones a Sánchez

The Council of Zaragoza has disabled the municipal emergency plan for the electrical shutdown after the meeting of Cecopi and the analysis of the situation, after the city normally rises once the electricity supply is gradually restored, and the rest of the services function without incidents. It was announced that they would request explanations about what happened from the Spanish Government.

The Mayor of Zaragoza, Natalia Chueca, stated that this plan will be updated so that the situation of absolute stoppage is planned, as it happened on Monday, or a cyber attack, arguing that there are situations that were not contemplated and «without a doubt, it is necessary that this did not happen.»

Chueca indicated that she is waiting to have more information from the Spanish government to diagnose the next steps to follow.

«For the Spanish government, we have to transfer the issue of what happened and what peace we have that this did not happen again, because the truth is that it has generated a situation of uncertainty and confusion.» She also mentioned that the economic losses of Monday will have to be evaluated, which «are few,» she said.

«Yesterday, she said we were completely autonomous, we had to act without information because we did not know what was happening, whether it was a cyber attack, whether it was a problem with the power grid, no one had answers, and therefore what Zaragoza did was act to protect the residents.»

In statements to the mass media, Chueca said that «normality» is the word that defines the situation in which Zaragoza has risen by detailing that the tram operates from 5:30 a.m. «with total normality.»

Unlike what was seen in other major cities, «where chaos restarted,» in Zaragoza, a city of 700,000 inhabitants, «the order and coordination of all municipal services, such as firefighters, civil protection, local police, and of course, the exemplary behavior of Zaragozans.»

For the Mayor, «if Zaragoza has been exemplary in anything again, it is the speed with which the emergency services, the local police, and all municipal services were organized so that less than 20 minutes after the stop, the municipal emergency plan was already in place.»

More than 200 incidents were dealt with in elevators where people were trapped; Civil protection also contributed to assisting people with reduced mobility due to not having the elevator operational, especially in the aftermath of Monday.

The local police immediately went out to replace the traffic lights and were able to manage manual traffic, preventing accidents, and the biggest issue was that the tram could not operate, and therefore, a free bus line was activated that crossed the same route, with 16 vehicles that allowed mobility in the city.

«You must congratulate all citizens because their behavior was truly exemplary, the recommendations followed, mobility was reduced, precautionary measures were automatically and extremely regulated, and therefore, we did not have to regret damages,» said the Mayor.

By midnight, the power supply of all neighborhoods had already been restored, even the rural neighborhoods that were the last to light up and an electric connection. Throughout the night, all public lighting worked normally in Zaragoza, as did traffic lights, and therefore, «today has risen with a certain normality after a day of great confusion and a complicated day for the city,» concluded Chueca.
