Dos regiones bañadas en oro: La riqueza del paisaje natural.
Spain is one of the European Union countries that is trying to lead the transition to more renewable energy sources, innovating with large projects and energy plans that promise to take the country a step further in this important process. Some details of the promising plan that aims to extract energy for millennia have now been revealed.
Learn about the regions where comprehensive projects will be carried out
As many know, Spain has managed to find large spaces from which to extract energy from the subsoil and turn it into great energy benefits. Continuing with these plans, the country recently announced the stunning news that two regions will benefit: they have a large energy reserve and we intend to make the most of it.
Along with solar and wind energy, geothermal energy has quickly gained great relevance in recent times, especially because Spain has great possibilities to extract it and supply itself with energy for millennia, and even a large part of it could be commercialized with this promising source available under the Canaries and Madrid.
We are talking about a new program that would greatly benefit Spain, by re-exploiting one of the great sources of clean energy found in Spanish soil. This could represent a significant advance in the global energy transition and the country’s positioning in this important transition.
A new energy opportunity for Spain
It is the Deep Geothermal program, the same plan that has a lavish funding figure to start with a total of 11 projects, of which 10 will take place in the Canaries and the rest in Madrid. With Spain’s constant innovation in the energy sector, the country has been able to expand successfully and position itself with a good supply of clean electricity.
In the Deep Geothermal Call for the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), approximately 111.2 million euros have been raised, which will be exclusively allocated to the extraction of geothermal energy available in Madrid and the Canaries, which represents a great energy Spanish step forward.
A series of phases to achieve Spain’s power
Initially, a series of exploratory studies to quantify and analyze the availability of geothermal resources in certain areas of the country. It is important to note that the first geothermal wells to be built will have a minimum depth of one thousand meters, being the first to have medium and high temperature levels.
After waiting for successful results from these initial tests, in a second instance, the resources available in the areas would be exploited. We are talking about the great possibility Spain has to maximize the use of deep geothermal energy of high and medium temperature, in addition to being the first projects of this type.
Once the energy in question is extracted, it is possible to allocate it to the production of electricity or it could be used for thermal purposes in Spain. On the other hand, it is important to note that not all projects have been implemented to date due to the high production costs and evident financial risks.
Beyond the economic problems that can be found in these energy plans, this portfolio of geothermal energy projects would represent a great advance in the world of renewable energies, especially when it comes to positioning Spain as a leading country in the global energy transition, reducing the sector’s polluting emissions.
