Doce detenidos en Ceuta por tráfico de drogas, incluida una guardia civil

The Guardia Civil and the Policía Nacional acted together on Tuesday in the «Operation Atam-Macetero» against drug trafficking, resulting in the arrest of 12 individuals, including a member of the Guardia Civil.
Authorities conducted 14 simultaneous raids in various locations in the early hours of the morning. The operations took place in several neighborhoods of the autonomous city.
The details of the operation are under a summary secrecy, but according to sources within the police, it is linked to arrests made on January 31st, which led to the imprisonment of Ceuta’s deputy Mohamed Ali Duas, as well as two relatives of the Guardia Civil agents involved.
The «Operation Atam-Macetero» was initiated a year ago by the Udyco unit of the police headquarters in Ceuta, in collaboration with the Information Service of the Guardia Civil in the city.
So far, over twenty individuals have been arrested in connection with the investigated crimes, and more than 800 kilograms of hashish have been seized, as reported by the Ceuta authorities.
The investigation involved units from the Policía Nacional such as the judicial police, Udyco Central, Udyco Algeciras, Udyco Fufenginola, and Zaragoza, as well as operational resources including air support, UIP, and UPR. The collaboration from the Guardia Civil included internal commercial cooperation and information groups from Algeciras and Zaragoza.
The initial investigation by the Policía Nacional stemmed from a drug seizure at the port of Ceuta. Early findings suggested a possible collusion between a Guardia Civil agent and criminal organizations.
The detained official is suspected of facilitating the approval of narcotics in exchange for financial considerations. This was allegedly done by exploiting his position to overlook vehicle inspections, allowing vehicles used by criminal organizations to transport drugs to pass through, as stated in a joint declaration by the authorities.
Legal proceedings were initiated in Ceuta’s Court of Investigation Number 5 and appropriate measures were taken. The investigation will be carried out jointly by the Policía Nacional and the Guardia Civil, focusing on the serious criminal activities and corruption within the police force in the city.
The coordinated efforts between the agencies led to the dismantling of criminal organizations collaborating with the arrested Guardia Civil member, from the top of the criminal organizational hierarchy down to lower-level associates, as concluded within the framework of the operation.
