Distribución de comisiones en el Parlamento Vasco

PNV y PSE-EE, part of the Basque Government, will preside over 16 out of the 20 commissions of the regional parliament, while the other four will be shared equally between EH Bildu and PP.

Most of the commissions in the regional chamber will be led by the PNV, a group that obtained 27 seats in the last regional elections and will lead twelve of these working groups. The PSE-EE, with twelve seats, will preside over four commissions.

Both government partners, who have an absolute majority of 39 seats out of a total of 75 in the Parliament, supported each other on Friday in the vote for the candidates to preside over the commissions, where they have a majority of 8 representatives out of a total of 15.

EH Bildu, which in the last elections tied with the PNV with 27 seats although it was behind in the votes, will preside over two commissions, while the PP, with seven mandates, will lead two others.

The commissions presided over by the PNV are Institutions, Governance and Public Security (Olatz Peón), Industry, Energy Transition and Sustainability (Mikel Arruabarrena), Food, Rural Development, Agriculture and Fisheries (Aritz Abaroa), Regulation and Government (Bakartxo Tejeria), Education (Alazne Arana), Welfare, Youth and Demographic Challenge (Maitane Ipiñazar), EITB Oversight (Jonatan Moreno), Health (Elena Lete), Science, Universities and Innovation (Xabier Barandiaran), European Affairs and Foreign Action (Naiara Bedialauneta), Parliament’s Statute (Jon Andoni Atutxa) and Equality and Development Cooperation (Irina Rabalo).

Meanwhile, the PSE will preside over the commissions of Sustainable Mobility (Miren Gallastegi), Economy, Labor and Employment (Alberto Alonso), Justice and Human Rights (Ekain Rico) and Territorial Planning, Housing and Urban Agenda (Miren Gallastegi).

In the opposition, EH Bildu will hold the presidency of the Culture, Basques and Sports Commission (Ima Garrastatxu) and the Tourism, Trade and Consumer Commission (Itziar Murua). The PP will preside over the Finance and Budget Commission (Álvaro Gochi) and Incompatibilities Commission (Ainhoa Domaica).

Each commission will be composed of 15 members: five from the PNV, five from EH Bildu, three from the PSE, one from the PP, and one from the Mixed Group, which is formed by a representative of Sumarului and a representative of Vox.

Since the members of the Mixed Group did not reach an agreement on the commissions in which each of its components will participate, the Board assigned representation in ten commissions to the Sumar parliamentarian and in another ten to the Vox representative.

The Council also agreed that the spokesperson of the Mixed Group will be distributed in four-month periods. The first period, starting in July 2024, will correspond to the representative of the Mixed Group-Vox.
