The entry into operation of this unit on January 6 was a qualitative leap in the quality and quantity of services offered.
The regional executive has invested over 11 million euros in this public health resource in Madrid, which boasts 11 endoscopy rooms equipped with state-of-the-art technology to double its operational volume. In fact, with these facilities, the annual 20,000 procedures will be increased to 40,000.
The design of this facility has been planned to ensure optimal patient care from the moment they arrive in the waiting room. Therefore, the facility has 29 individual boxes for their preparation before the prescribed technique and their subsequent recovery, along with their companions. These compartments have continuous monitoring systems that enhance the safety and quality of care, being permanently monitored by professionals.
It also includes specialized areas for the processing and storage of endoscopes, with some washing and disinfection circuits designed to ensure maximum efficiency and sterilization of these tools. In addition to these spaces, there are others dedicated to staff, meeting rooms, offices, and a fully equipped auditorium for clinical and training sessions.
All theaters have an integrated audiovisual system that allows the transmission of live explorations, facilitating collaboration among endoscopy unit professionals and opening up the possibility of offering online courses to specialists worldwide.
New National Reference Center in Poetry
This new public health infrastructure in Madrid helps strengthen the experience of Puerta de Hierro in advanced endoscopy, which is, among other aspects, due to its recent designation as one of the centers, services, and units of reference (CSUR) in advanced therapeutic endoscopy. Against primary type III (a swallowing condition affecting the esophagus) with the help of peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM).
Furthermore, the complex continues to provide high-complexity procedures, such as endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), which has an increasing demand for the treatment of early neoplasms of the digestive tract and other cutting-edge endoscopic techniques for biliopancreatic pathology and liver disease studies.
In 2024, Puerta de Hierro Majadahonda attended to 668,987 patients in outpatient consultations from different units and services and performed 22,042 surgeries. In the hospitalization area, the Health Center recorded 28,092 admissions and 200,723 emergencies. It has 613 beds, all in individual rooms.
