Díaz Ayuso inaugura centro para infecciones de transmisión sexual y anuncia plan de combate.

Díaz Ayuso explained that, through this «roadmap,» the regional government will gather all necessary measures to combat the rise of this type of disease, focusing particularly on the younger, «less aware» collective, which implies the danger of risky sexual practices.

Díaz Ayuso emphasized that more than 16,000 cases were detected in 2024, 9% more than the previous year. For this reason, the plan will promote early diagnosis and prevention, as well as promote sexual education, hygiene, and improve information and monitoring systems against epidemics, along with the importance of increasing research and innovation.

New center in the chamber

Sandoval II is located on Andrés Mellado street in the capital, in the Chamberí district, and the regional government has invested over 1 million euros in its launch. With the capacity to serve 3,000 users annually, its opening hours are from 08:00 to 15:00. The range of services and medical care is the same as that provided in the other two facilities, Sandoval, in Chamberí and Sur South, which opened its doors in November of last year in Alcorcón. With its opening, President Díaz Ayuso’s commitment in the electoral program to expand from one to three centers is fulfilled.

This new complex starts its activity with a team of 17 professionals, including four specialized doctors, four nurses, pharmacists, social workers, and a clinical psychologist. The facility occupies an area of 242 square meters, distributed in reception, triage rooms, exudates and extractions, and four specialized medicine, medical assistance, social assistance, and clinical psychology consultation rooms, among other areas.

Sandoval will also provide testing for HIV, syphilis, and papilloma, as well as vaccinations against hepatitis A and B, human papillomavirus, and MPOX, dispensing post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV.

Educational and research activities

In addition to its care activities, it will develop an educational and research program for training healthcare professionals throughout Spain and generating knowledge that contributes to reversing the growth curve of diagnoses of this type of pathology, including gonococcal infection, Chlamydias, and syphilis.

Sandoval is a reference resource in the Madrid community and throughout Spain, with nearly 100 years of continuous activity in the field of prevention, early detection, and early care. It records over 50,000 annual consultations and 85,000 biological tests and determinations, diagnosing over 6,500 cases per year.
