Around 680 Peruvians in the United States who have remained irregular in the country are expected to be deported in the following weeks, said Peru’s Foreign Minister, Elmer Schiar, as part of President Donald Trump’s new immigration policy.
In a presentation to Congress, Schiar stated that the country received 34 deportees over the weekend and expected another military plane with 141 expelled citizens to arrive on Thursday.
«The Peruvian embassy in Washington reported that as of February 5, 340 Peruvians are detained with a deportation order and that 343 Peruvians are awaiting a possible deportation order,» said the Foreign Minister.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, around 320,000 Peruvians live in the United States out of a total of one million living in that country.
Schiar stated that since 2022, when Peru and the states signed an agreement on undocumented treatment, the northern US has expelled about 12,080 Peruvians.
