Concluye instrucción del crimen de Elisa Abrruñedo en Cabanas, se abre proceso oral

The Ferrol Investigative Court has concluded the investigation into the crime of Elisa Abrruñedo, a resident of Cabanas (A Coruña) whose body was found in September 2013, just a few hours after she disappeared.
According to the Superior Court of Justice of Galicia (TSXG), it was decided, as a result, to issue an arrest warrant for the suspect by the Civil Guard after more than ten years of investigation. He eventually confessed to the crime shortly after being questioned.
The case will now be sent to the Provincial Court of A Coruña for criminal prosecution by a jury if the facts constitute the crimes of sexual assault and murder.
Furthermore, the judge ordered to maintain the precautionary measures imposed on the personal situation of the accused, who remains in provisional prison in León and to ensure pecuniary responsibilities.
The resolution is final, so there is no possibility of appeal against it.
In the resolution and according to the procedures carried out, there are sufficient indications to continue legal actions against the suspect. It is stated that the accused drove his vehicle on the day of September 1, 2013, and after spotting the victim, left the car parked on a neighborhood road.
Subsequently, the accused, as indicated, approached her from behind, assaulted and immobilized her. He then took her to a wooded area off the road to a secluded spot where he sexually assaulted her.
Using a knife or similar sharp object he had in his pants pocket, he allegedly stabbed her in the torso and neck, causing her death.
The judge points out that the procedures conducted are «rational and sufficient indications» against the accused. He highlights the statements provided by the police and the judicial headquarters by the accused, as well as witnesses, and reports from the Civil Guard in Ferrol, as well as the criminal laboratory of the Civil Guard of A Coruña.
Furthermore, from the Biology Department of the Criminal Service of the Civil Guard, the Criminal Behavior Analysis Section of the Judicial Police Technical Unit, and the Criminal Genetics Service of the Legal Sciences Institute (IMELGA).
