CHA pide soluciones urgentes para la falta de personal de salud en hospitales de Teruel y Alcañiz

The CHA has requested «urgent solutions» after witnessing, in recent months, how hospitals in Teruel and Alcañiz were left without specialists on several occasions because vacancies were not filled due to resignations or vacations, which they described as «alarming» and «unsustainable.»

Speaking to the media, the Secretary General of the CHA and spokesperson for the Health Committee of Aragon, Isabel Lasobobras, the territorial secretary of the party in the Teruel regions, and the sub-secretary general of institutional relations, strategy, and form of the Aragonese party, Alberto Celma, appeared in front of the Polanco Bishop Hospital in Teruel to publicly denounce the «serious situation» experienced by this center and the one in Alcañiz due to the lack of staff.

«We denounce the lack of healthcare personnel in the hospitals in Teruel and Alcañiz. A basic and fundamental right, such as public health, does not deserve the treatment that the Azcón government has given it in these two years of legislature,» said Lasobobras, blaming this situation on the «mismanagement» of the government.

«Undermining the public health system to promote its privatization, as evidenced by the increase in subcontracting in specialties such as Otolaryngology, rehabilitation, and dermatology at the Teruel Hospital, where a private company will provide these services,» added Carbó.

In the same vein, the second in command of the CHA considered it «curious» that there are no doctors for public health but for private healthcare, while recalling that Justice asked the regional government to hire a dermatologist for Teruel after numerous complaints from patients waiting over two years for a consultation.

Both Aragonese leaders emphasized that this protest is not just from the CHA, as «the Medical colleague of Teruel has expressed deep concern about the shortage of healthcare professionals, especially in hospitals in Teruel and Alcañiz.»

They also warned that the opening of new hospitals could worsen the current situation if staffing levels do not increase.

Therefore, the CHA demanded an increase of 10% to 15% in the structural human resources of both hospital centers to ensure their normal operation and to guarantee comprehensive and quality medical care. Among the most immediate challenges are filling 47 difficult positions, including specialties such as otolaryngology, dermatology, pathology, pulmonology, and rheumatology.

Additionally, the New Teruel Hospital will expand from six to eight operating rooms, requiring more medical staff, healthcare professionals, and support. In Alcañiz, the creation of a UCI is expected, which will need between five and six additional intensivists.
