In Slovenia The carnival celebration has a long tradition. The two most important events take place in northeastern Slovenia, in Ptuj, and in the central-south, in Cerkncia. In the first case, the holidays had their most characteristic moment on Sunday, March 2, with an international procession and a parade of over three thousand masks. Many people dressed up as Kurent a character in Slovenian tradition who scares away winter and evil.
In the carnival parade in Cerkna which reached its 50th edition this year, over 1,100 masks participated among the characters of old stories that marked the history of Slovenian literature.
