Besteiro denuncia el deterioro de la salud y acusa al PP de improvisación

The Secretary General and spokesperson of the PSDEG, José Ramón Gómez Betiro, warned that Galicia is experiencing a situation of «continuous dismantling» of public health under the PP and Alfonso Rueda, whom he accused of being characterized by «permanent improvisation» with solutions that are not admired.
This was stated in statements to the media in front of the Conxo Health Center, where medical assistance has been temporarily transferred to modular containers, allowing for medical care while the complete renovation of the building is carried out.
In his speech, the leader of the socialists denounced that the Xunta «does not guarantee access or quality of medical care, especially in primary care.» «In recent years, a thousand health professionals have been lost and 200 doctors have been trained in the Galician health system. This is the result of a deficit in planning and investment,» he said.
Besteiro warned that «Galicia and Madrid are the communities that invest the least in primary care and have focused on the situation in pediatrics: 15% of pediatric positions are vacant. This is not just a statistic: these are children without adequate medical care,» he said.
He also warned about the «serious situation» of mental health in Galicia. «There is an obvious shortage of psychological and psychiatric professionals, and waiting lists for psychiatric care exceed six months. It is intolerable that those in urgent need of help have to wait half a year to be treated,» he said.
Regarding the Conxo Health Center, he criticized that, despite being under renovation, it will be small before completion, and the temporary center replacing it becomes «permanently provisional,» a hallmark of the Rueda administration.
The socialist spokesperson emphasized that «there are over 220,000 Galicians waiting for a specialist test and 50,000 for an operation,» data described as «alarming» and showing that «the Galician health system is paralyzed, collapsed, and experiencing a loss of quality.»
In this context, Betirus warned that «the lack of seriousness of the PP with public health is reflected in the fact that they have not taken the necessary measures for years.» «Now the problems arise and it is because there is a deficit in planning, a deficit in investment, and, above all, a deficit in allocating more funds to public health.» «All of this has led to paralysis and permanent makeshift solutions that we all pay for,» he added.
The PSDEG also announced that the socialist group will bring this issue to the next parliamentary session to demand accountability from the President of the Xunta. «We have a Conselleiro who, instead of being part of the solution, is part of the problem. Health is one of the main concerns of Galicians, and the PP is not expected to provide the necessary solutions,» he criticized.
Finally, he called for citizens to join the demonstration in defense of public health scheduled for this Sunday in Compostela: «The PSDEG will be on the streets, as always. Yesterday in Viveiro, today in Conxo, advocating for accessible, dignified, and quality public health.»
On another note, when asked about this, Betirus stated that the «partisan use» of Xunta funds by the government of Alfonso Ruda «seems to be a general trend.»
«The position that the Xunta of Galicia takes regarding municipalities is absolutely discriminatory,» he criticized, noting that «there are agreements with some but not with others,» and that in terms of autonomous funding, «it does not support the municipal world for any reason,» as funds have been frozen for many years.
«The issues related to these agreements are signed without criteria, but mostly through political affinity,» Betirus added.
