Andalucía activa Plan de Emergencia por riesgo de inundaciones en Cádiz

The Junta de Andalucía was urgently activated in Phase 1 before the risk of flooding from the Special Emergency Plan (PERI), before the flooding of the Hozgarganta River, as it passes through the Frontra front in the province of Cádiz.

This was communicated by the Minister of Presidency, Interior, Social Dialogue, and Administrative Simplification, Antonio Sanz, through his official social media account «X», consulted by Europa Press. In light of this situation, Sanz urged people to «not let their guard down before the rain» and to follow the guidance of emergency services from 112.

The emergency service 112 in Andalucía managed a total of 20 notifications due to the rainfall recorded during Wednesday throughout the community. In addition, the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) activated a yellow warning for rain in various areas of the provinces of Almería, Granada, Jaén, and Málaga, where up to 60 liters per square meter of rain is expected in the first twelve hours.

According to AEMET’s website, consulted by this agency, in the province of Almería, the yellow rain alert will remain in effect from 15:00 hours until the end of Thursday in Valle del Almanzora, Poniente, Almería Capital, Los Vélez, and Levante and Campo. In these regions, an accumulated precipitation of 20 liters per square meter is expected in the first hour, which could be accompanied by thunderstorms.

In Granada, the yellow rain notification will remain active for the same period in the Genil Basin, Guadix, and Baza. These areas will be affected by an accumulated precipitation of 20 l/m2 in the first hour, which may be accompanied by thunderstorms.

Regarding the province of Jaén, the yellow rain notification will remain active from 15:00 onwards. In these regions, an accumulated precipitation of 20 liters per square meter is expected in the first hour, which could be accompanied by thunderstorms.

Similarly, in the region of Málaga and Guadalhorce, and in Ronda, the yellow rain notification is also planned to be active until Thursday at 06:00, where an accumulated precipitation of 60 liters in twelve hours is expected.

The weather forecast for Andalusia for Thursday is expected to be very cloudy or overcast with showers. However, persistent showers are not ruled out in the Mediterranean slope and in the Strait. Later on, heavy rains are expected locally, accompanied by thunderstorms in the eastern third of the community, tending to reduce disturbances and sending rain to the west in the first place.

In terms of temperatures, there will be no changes, except in the east, where the maximum will rise. On this day, winds will blow from the north, moderate on the coast of Almería, and variable in the rest, with a predominance of the southern component in the appearance of the Atlantic.
