Acuerdo de Hasbro y Legendary Entertainment para adaptación de «Magic: The Gathering» a cine y televisión
Hasbro Entertainment and Legendary Forces have joined forces to bring «Magic: Assembly» to both big and small screens. The duo has signed a licensing deal to create «a live-action feature film and television universe» inspired by the game book. Initially, it will be a movie, with another average, but this is all that has been revealed so far.
Long-time Mtg fans may feel skeptical about this announcement, as this is not the first time the intellectual property has promised some kind of movie or television adaptation. The game book fandom lists many proposed film projects over the years. The first notable one was a plan for more universal movies by the end of 2008, which never materialized. Then Hasbro made a film with Twentieth Century Fox in 2014, but that never came to fruition. Netflix also joined two different magical projects, but it seems that the streamer’s animated television series could actually come to life, with a September 2024 Tudum Post that is really happening and in production.
Legendary Entertainment has had several projects based on geek culture, usually bringing a large budget and a dark edge to their work. The most recent studio has worked on «Dune» and «Dune: the second part» and was also involved in taking over Christopher Nolan in Batman’s «The Dark Knight» films, as well as «War» movie. Mtg has a lot of tradition to draw from, so there is plenty of material for a cinematic universe. Here’s hoping that the producers and talent understand how to harness all the potential into a great film.
