Almeida highlighted the support of the City Council for these events organized by the COAM Architecture Foundation and the Official College of Architects of Madrid, which, in this edition, have Peru and Lima as the invited countries and cities. This event, he said, «has become essential and unavoidable in the city of Madrid» because it offers citizens the opportunity to «better enter this world and appreciate this art even more,» he emphasized. It allows architects to «expand and exchange knowledge» as well as «rethink the future of Madrid, increasingly sustainable and with a better quality of life.»

The mayor also highlighted that, as part of the extensive cultural program that the City Council is developing to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Antonio Palacios, an exhibition of images of 14 emblematic buildings designed by the architect was organized in Retiro Park. Thus, in addition to observing the images of his most emblematic Madrid works, displayed on panels installed on the Paseo de Coches, after the entrance leading to Calle O’Donnell through the Puerta de Madrid, visitors to this exhibition can scan a QR code that will allow them to directly access the centenary website (centenariopalacios.es) as well as the Architecture Madrid application and thus consult photographs, building plans, and access the translated version in English.

Coinciding with Architecture Week, any pedestrian walking through Retiro Park can learn more about the work of Antonio Palacios, which includes buildings such as the Círculo de Bellas Artes, the Palacio de Cibeles, the Instituto Cervantes, or the Matesanz building.

The mayor visited the two exhibitions hosted by the COAM, ‘Le fil rouge. Renzo Piano Building Workshop’, a monographic exhibition on this studio, and ‘Lima Húmeda. Metropolitan landscapes through cycles. Water spaces and inhabitants’, organized by the College of Architects of Peru, on the architectural heritage of Peru and the city of Lima.

Visits to EMVS Madrid houses

The Madrid City Council also actively participates in this Architecture Week through the Municipal Housing and Land Company of Madrid (EMVS Madrid), which organizes two guided tours to two of its projects.
