At the Mipim Real Estate Fair in Cannes, the Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, showcased the city’s progress in urban developments to facilitate the construction of over 200,000 new homes.
Under the slogan «Madrid in transformation, a future opportunity,» Almeida shared initiatives that position Madrid as a leader in the European real estate sector, with a special emphasis on affordable housing.
The capital has seen a significant increase in its public housing stock, with a 47% rise in the last five years, reaching nearly 10,000 units by the end of the year. Currently, over 4,000 public housing units are under development.
According to the data presented, over 70% of foreign real estate investments in Spain are directed towards Madrid. This places the city as the second most attractive in Europe to invest in the real estate sector, just behind London.
